And honestly, there is also no way you should leave this region without visiting it at least once. Gurara is truly a masterpiece of nature — powerful, beautiful, and unforgettable.
Located in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State, the waterfall sits along the Suleja–Minna road and is about one hour thirty minutes’ drive from Abuja. So if you live in Abuja and have always thought Gurara Falls is far away, it really isn’t. It is one of those destinations perfect for a short road trip or even a romantic nature getaway.
First Sight: The Power and Beauty of Nature
The first view of Gurara Waterfalls leaves a strong impression. Water pours down wide rock formations with a force that immediately commands attention. The sound alone — the continuous roar of falling water — creates a dramatic and almost hypnotic atmosphere.

Best Time to Visit Gurara Falls
From what many visitors share and from general experience, the safest and most comfortable time to visit Gurara Waterfalls is during the dry season, around January to March. During this period:

- flow is calmer
- water appears clearer
- surrounding areas are easier to explore
In peak rainy season, the waterfall becomes extremely powerful and less accessible, so caution is important.

It is safest to enjoy Gurara visually and from secure areas rather than entering deep water zones.
Entry Fee and Visitor Tips
When I visited Gurara Waterfalls, there was an entry fee of about ₦1,000 per person. Fees may change over time, but visitors should expect a small access charge.
One important tip is to come prepared with your own snacks, drinks, or picnic food. During my visit, it was difficult to find places nearby to buy refreshments. Bringing your own supplies makes the experience more comfortable, especially if you plan to stay longer.
